STORY OF AN ARTIST
Madeline L. Reamy
Madeline L. Reamy began drawing as a young child, capturing remarkable likenesses of people and animals. Encouraged by family and friends, she later studied painting at Philadelphia College of Art and in Paris, France where she earned her undergraduate degree in art and art history. She continued to paint after college in her free time, while pursuing a career in museum work, earning her MFA degree from Syracuse University on a full scholarship.
Her museum career provided a creative outlet in developing a variety of education programs incorporating art and music. She often designed event invitations and printed material to promote museum exhibits and events. In the late 1990s, Madeline developed a side career as an animal caregiver and at the same time – her desire to return to painting and specifically pet portraits – was rekindled. She began doing commissions for pet paintings, and this work has continued to the present day.
Following her retirement in 2021 from a 40-year career in leadership positions with nonprofit museums and environmental organizations, Madeline had the opportunity to devote more time to her art. Her paintings began to focus on the mystery and beauty of the moon and the night sky. More recently she has produced paintings that reflect her deep love of all nature in all its forms, expressed in vibrant fresh colors and textures.
